This machine is a turret lathe that was made just about the time that turret lathes began to be used. The turret lathe is intended for the mass production of machine parts. These were put into practical use in the latter half of the 19th century. Part machining can be completed while the tool post, on which six blades (called turrets) are secured, makes one revolution.
